If you haven’t saved seeds of your open-pollinated tomatoes now is the time. Actually, anytime during the season when you pick a tomato that has all the finer points that you want to preserve is a good time.

First to know is that hybrid tomatoes such as ‘Early Girl’ will not necessarily come true from seed. If you’re not sure if your tomato is open-pollinated or hybrid, Google the variety. The Tomato Dirt website has FAQ’s on saving tomato seeds.
