A Literal Windfall

Pine needles from a neighbor’s yard gathered after a storm a few months ago. Using what’s at hand or headed for the green waste saves in several ways.

I like the color contrast of the pine needle mulch around the cabbage. Pine needles do a decent job keeping the weeds at bay and retain soil moisture. The also work well with strawberries, lifting the fruit off the soil.
