Backyard Orchard Culture at SDHS Tonight

September 12, 2011

If you’re thinking about planting fruit trees this winter, then come to the San Diego Horticultural Society meeting tonight, Monday, September 12, 6-9 pm. Tom Spellman of Dave Wilson Nursery, the largest growers of deciduous fruit, nut and shade trees in California will speak on “backyard orchard culture.”

Tom will discuss the goal of backyard orchard culture which is the prolonged harvest of tree-ripe fruit from a small space. You’ll learn which varieties to plant, how to plant close together and training techniques.

Details:  Meeting is open and everyone is welcome. Admission, members free, non-members $10. Free parking. Meeting place:  Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surfside Race Place, Del Mar.

If you can’t make the meeting, check the Backyard Orchard Culture Guide on the Dave Wilson Nursery website or The California Backyard Orchard (UC Davis).
