Ranking 46th in the nation, San Diego boasts top crops in nursery, avocados, cut flowers and vegetables. Almost 70% of the San Diego County Farms are 1-9 acres and nearly 41% are operated by women. San Diego County has more certified organic growers than any other county in the state with more than 280 certified organic farms. 94% of farms in San Diego County are family farms.
With over 4,000 farms in San Diego County, local farmer’s markets offer a wide variety of fresh produce throughout the year. Here are some items you may find at local Farmer’s Markets and farmstands in June.
June: Avocados, basil, beets, blackberries, boysenberries, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cherimoyas, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, grapes, grapefruit, green beans, guavas, fresh herbs, lemons, limes, onions, peaches, plums, potatoes, radishes, raspberries, scallions, summer squash, strawberries, tangelos, tomatoes, Valencia oranges and various cut flowers.
