Larkspur

Larkspur

Isn’t the color alluring and the flower charming? Larkspur also attracts beneficial insects and bees to the garden. It’s easy to grow from seed and comes back every year. For all these reasons I like to plant it with my vegetables in the fall garden. In mild winter areas, now is the time to plant larkspur.

Read an earlier post about flowers, insects and the vegetable garden. Find a list of some of the flowers that attract beneficials and pollinators here.

Floret larkspur ‘Earl Grey’

Larkspur seeds are available from many seed purveyors including these favorites:

  • Johnny’s Seeds  Seventeen different options sold individually and as a mixtures.

  • Floret offers enchanting colors and mixtures. Think Smokey Eyes and Earl Grey.

  • Renee’s Garden Seeds  I love the descriptions and drawings. Click through to see the photos.

Excellent growing information for larkspur here.
Good to know: All parts of the larkspur plant and seeds are poisonous.
