Why Carrots Are Orange and Not Purple

image

August 21, 2014

So why are carrots orange? Read this short blog post from The Kitchn for the answer.

I’m especially pleased with this seed mix from Renee’s Garden.

The purple carrots have a bright orange center and add punch to a simple green salad.

Go to the World Carrot Museum to read History of Carrots–A Brief Summary & Timeline.

If you garden in a warm winter area you can probably plant carrots starting in late September. Trader Joe’s in our area carries a tricolor organic carrot mix to give you another chance at purple carrots.
